WHO WE ARE

I, Marco Chagas and Ana Cyra Palmerston, are a couple who became aware of the lack of clothing options for people with special needs. For that, we spent a good amount of time talking to our target audience and with that we were able to identify the needs and challenges that involve our users and their caregivers.

We have discovered that our customers want to keep their daily routine complete, so that they can continue to enjoy the best moments of life with their families. This includes dressing independently, as they want to live by their desires and their own rules.

TAKE CARE OF THOSE WHO ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF YOU

No one likes to be underestimated, but unfortunately, this often happens to older people. Sometimes with the best of intentions, the children themselves try to impose limits on their parents when, in fact, they are still far from the need to be tutored.

There are two concepts in gerontology that are of the utmost importance to everyone dealing with older people: independence and autonomy. Independence is the ability to carry out everyday activities without assistance: dressing, bathing, etc. Autonomy refers to the ability to manage one's own life and make decisions. It means living according to your desires and your own rules.

Caregivers only do for the elderly what they cannot do alone and encourage them to perform activities appropriate to their current capacity, but are also with them when the limitation is great, preserving the dignity of the assisted person._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_

Caregivers are trained to care for the elderly as they need to, promoting their independence and assisting them in carrying out pre-established activities. They know that it is necessary to preserve existing functions and encourage deficit ones.

Caregivers are likely to injure their backs when caring for adults with disabilities. This is more frequent in them than in workers in any other sector. This stat puts them 9 times more vulnerable than any other average professional. Many of these injuries occur as a result of strenuous and repetitive weight bearing.

For us, limited mobility will never be a limiting factor for having clothing options. The burden that caregivers carry when dressing people with limited mobility is notorious. This is a cause that we at AdaptWear embrace and it moves us to undertake solutions that aim to return independence to our users and more security for their caregivers.
